Halloween!!

When I was growing up Halloween was never a big deal. We did not have trick or treaters come to the door and my parents would never have entertained us knocking on strangers’ doors asking for treats!

My eldest two children grew up in the countryside where we lived on a lane with no street lighting. Nobody came knocking on our door after dark!

About 10 years ago I happened to be in New York on Halloween. What a fantastic experience! We rode the subway with zombies and ghouls then watched the parade which was absolutely brilliant. The costumes and the effort people had put in was unbelievable. The bars were overflowing with people in the most imaginative costumes I had ever seen.

I think a little of the states has now rubbed off on us Brits. I now live in a more built-up area and I must say, I do enjoy taking my daughter out to ‘trick or treat’. Some of the houses we visit are decorated in the most brilliantly original ways.

I am already looking forward to some dressing up and light hearted fun, oh, not to mention stealing my daughter’s sweets once she is in bed!
