Football Mum!

When my daughter was born little did I know that every weekend, even through the winter, I would be standing on a touch line cheering her on.

She has loved football from as soon as she could kick a ball. When she was 4 years old we looked for a team for her, the only options we had were boys teams. Even at this young age the boys treated her differently, they refused to pass to her or include her.
Age 6 she moved to a new all girls team where she met girls like her. I think she finally felt like she really belonged and it was ok not to want to be pink and fluffy! (She does do ‘girly’ every now and then).

Throughout her football life she has made lovely friends as have we. Birthday parties have been full of friends from her team and they all enjoy getting together for a kick about or trip to the local shopping centre.

Unfortunately despite having a growing girls division, her club treated the girls very differently to the boys. They rarely got new equipment and regularly had very late kick off times. This unfortunately is not unique to the one club.

This summer a handful of  parents decided that rather than moan, they should be pro-active and the Greenhithe Lionesses was founded.  A club where the girls are treated fairly and encouraged to be the best they can be whilst having fun and making lasting friendships. A club where all abilities are welcome. The only qualifying stipulation is a love of football.

Looks like another winter where my weekends will be spent on muddy fields! Would I have it any other way?

No!

Of course not!
